 as a person who buys and sells vehicles often.......a grand will get u nothing.  My advice...save some loot.  U need atleast $2500 for a truck or suv.  And even then, it won't be great. 

I just bought a 96 suburban for $2500.  Only 115K miles.  Needed body work though.  Fortunately I know how to do it.
Point is....I was looking for awhile, and that was the cheapest thing out there.

you gotta go f%&* around in the hood if you want a car for 1k..  hell i just sold my car for $675 about a month ago and it was reliable, just the cosmetic damage was rough.  but you have to hunt for the deals and be a jew when you come w cash.

just got a 4x4 f150 and only paid 600 needs a little tlc but runs great... got lucky and came across someone desperate for cash. yay good timing lol

I doubt you will find something you really want for that price but there are plenty of beat up cars out there cheap. Just never at a car lot. Dad recently got a 4x4 96 ranger that had rolled over a hill backwards. The bed was jacked up but runs ok.

There is a red/pink 199? dodge shadow at  ?virginia ave mt. sterling ky. behind autozone. can be seen from road and not missed if looking for it

its amazing what some people think is ok to do to a vehicle lol oh well she runs and will spin all 4 tires in 4wd lol found out it does indeed have a 351 in it the person thought it was a 302 but a mechanic confirmed diff. im excited now lol
